A guide to air pollution developed by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Emilia Georgieva, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Elena Hristova, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tatiana Spassova from National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology and Sevdalina Voynova from the Sofia Development Association, has been published and is freely available to various stakeholders
The guide was prepared in the framework of the INNOAIR project, co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund through the initiative "Innovative activities for urban development".
The paper summarizes the factors influencing the levels of various pollutants in the atmosphere and how their adverse effects can be eliminated or limited in order to improve air quality in cities.
The handbook contains information on how air pollution can affect human health, ecosystems and biodiversity, climate change and cultural heritage. In addition, it presents the already developed air quality monitoring systems in Sofia, as well as air quality management strategies and good practices from different countries around the world.
